All of R.A.P.'s individual and group services have direct benefit for youth and their families and we make them available to victims of crime as well. By instilling R.A.P.’s values of trust, accessibility, compassion and empathy in the aftermath of traumatic experiences, we rebuild the community. Not only do we listen but we really try to HEAR to ensure that people know they are respected, understood and cared for. We strive to help people understand, overcome and cope with the feelings they experience due to the crime, abuse, violence or harm that they’ve experienced. We assist them in understanding their rights and ensure they do not go through any legal processes alone.
Another positive impact is that our work helps regain a sense of power by gaining information about the person(s) who caused the harm or inflicted violence and then working towards forgiveness. There is great power in forgiveness to truly heal the trauma we experience.
R.A.P.’s process of facilitating Restorative Justice meetings between the victim and the person who caused the harm promotes prevention, accountability and healing for those involved. R.A.P. also provides emotional support through R.A.P.’s Healing Circles that provide individuals and families significant therapeutic, educational and peer support through discussions and mutual support networks. Currently, many of these services are at no cost to participants for youth and adults.
