AXIOS, a Greek term meaning “to have value or be worthy,” captures the outcome we desire for all AXIOS Mentor Program participants. RAP’s vision is one in which caring adults identify children and youths’ needs, provide them with the tailor-made individualized tools, services and programs they need to create positive lives. As one of those tools, the AXIOS Program provides youth experiencing trauma with family and group therapy, trauma reducing activities, and wraparound services grounded in the evidence-based Support for Students Experiencing Trauma (SSET) model and RAP’s proprietary Children of Separated and Incarcerated Parents Mentoring (CSIP) strategy to address the unique traumas in a youth’s life. We believe that when you change a child’s life with positive reinforcements, you strengthen the family, which makes a healthy community and changes the world!
AXIOS Mentor Monitor Minister AXIOS
Our Mentoring Process utilizes a cultural best practices model of MENTOR MONITOR MINISTER. RAP adopts a best practice of enrolling Mentor Support Specialists who are credible messengers and perform three roles in the development of effective restorative processes: Mentors- develop trusting, caring, and culturally competent relationships; Monitor by tracking and supporting progress on academic and behavioral outcomes; and Minister by promoting positive character, positive attitudes, positive socio-emotional development, and serving others. By utilizing these components youth can take practical steps to realizing their hopes, desires, and future. In a world that is forever challenging, our mentors strive to bring a sense of well-being, a reminder that none of us are not alone. Our mentors build trust in family and community to lead and guide the youth to realize their self-identity, develop new skills and promote the healing that will lead them to their true purpose in life.
